Swiss titan helmet TIG was purchased for the KGB USSR in the late seventies.
First photos of the helmet were from Afganistan.






On the territory of the Soviet Union these helmets entered into service for Special Forces of the KGB – Alfa and Vympel.

Based on this helmet there were created several helmets of similar class in the USSR and then in Russia- Altyn, K6-3, Rys’. There are similar helmets made in Germany and Austria.



In the USSR and Russia TIG shad several upgrades. Headsets were varied (of several types) also boxes for connectors and controllers of radio and in many cases the liner was replaced by foam plastic instead of leather.
Bulletproof helmets with which special units are primarily supplied now are Altyn and LShZ-2DT.
Nevertheless TIGs often coexist with other helmets in the same unit and are not going to be written off soon.
According to many Special Forces fighters they prefer TIG as it smaller, lighter and very comfortable for long wearing, that’s why it is the hemlet that the staff tries to get in use.

Now let’s speak about the replica itself.




Material of the production is glass-fibre reinforced plastic, glass of the visor is of polycarbonate.
There are some metal parts, such as stoppers, latches, visor clip. Leather liner. Weight: 1.9 kg with a visor.
The manufacturer peformed test shooting of the helmet, visor and its glass with 0.2 balls from the rifle power 685 fps within less than two feet There was no damage.
Matrix of the helmet was taken from the original helmet. The producer accurately reproduced all its details. Compliance of replica with the original if not 100% then 99%.
Liner is fully adjustable from Size 54 to Size 60. It’s very comfortable.
Visor can be raised, lowered and removed the same way as the original.
Fully compatible with the glasses type ESS ICE, most likely the helmet will be compatible with any radio headset, there is enough space near ears.
Microphone basically works (although the helmet is not radio-equipped) that gives you a chance to resolder it for your own headset.
As for layout of a microphone on the replica it is on the left side of this TIG model and not on the right one like Altyn has it.

With a lowered visor one can see clear enough, although a field of view is limited of course. The visor doesn’t get misted.

Like in the original helmet the microphone can be turned back.






My conclusion is that there is absolutely no feeling that it is a replica, everything is very comfortable and of very high quality.
